Portfolio of Works

This is a collection of paintings that I have done on location and in the studio. I have usually designated whether it is a studio or plein air (done on location).

This collection of paintings is mostly about figures, some individual and some in groups, but is a scene mostly dominated by one or a group of figures.

I have always enjoyed drawing and still go to life drawing sessions as often as I can get away. Here are some examples of some of my best drawings.

Figurescapes are usually paintings that incorporate figures in a street, market or some other type of landscape. They usually dominate the scene and as a past Illustrator I really enjoy putting them together, often using multiple photos to work them out.

This is a collection of paintings relating to activity or scenes in or near a harbor or a body of water.

This is a collection of painting that were all done Plein Air..which simply means done outside on location. They usually have a special quality of mood and spontaneity as they are usually all done in about two hours or so. Some I have touched up in the studio with the intent of just making some of them more  presentable without taking away that special mood and spontaneity!

This colllection is of Portraits I have done. I mostly do these for myself and they are usually Ethnic or Character in nature. I really enjoy doing them and am always traveling and looking for great faces to work from.

These are color studies that I do before working on most studio paintings, particularly more complicated works. I usually do small value studies to work out the design and then will often do a color study to work out more complicated issues as to color harmony and edges. I really enjoy this part of the painting process as it where most of the creative thought is being done..some are fairly loose and sometimes rough....as the point is not to think of details, but the more important aspects such as design..shapes, values, color and edges.They are the best of hundreds of studies that I do and paintings that I feel very good about. These are mostly smaller pieces, unframed..ranging from around 6"x 8" to 10"x12" and priced fairly modestly for the quality and size of each individual piece. The price includes taxes and shipping. This color study from a trip to China is still available.

I haven't done many still lifes and just finished this study and studio painting.
